Sherry Yi is a doctoral student studying educational psychology, specifically the cognitive science of teaching and learning, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
She studies interest development within digital learning and out-of-school environments. Her current project investigates the triggering of interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics using Minecraft in summer camps for adolescents.
In her dissertation, she uses the case study methodology and the triangulation of multiple instruments to examine the extent to which a STEM-related videogame intervention can influence interest development. This research contributes to the budding field of interest development within digital learning contexts.
She is excited by the role entertainment technology will play in the future of learning for all. Her hobbies include running a small art business, exploring new hiking trails, and gardening.
